U boot logs with comments:  testing as400 spiflash  booting nvme-- nothing else is in machine (no emmc, sd, usb disk....)

First spiflash-menu...  tested several times,  would boot sometimes,  U-boot does display on build-in screen and on serial console.  On serial console ctl-c is recognized to provide menu, selecteing and hitting return for proper selection seems to work.  On PBP  itself, ctl-c does not have any effect.  Wonder whether this is some kind of tiing problem,  although in menu-less u-boot,  I can stop u-boot from the pbp keyboard by pressing return,  where it asks to any key to be pressed to interrupt u-boot.   The system indeed seems to put but I can no output on the PBP and the system seems to hang with no further serial output  after
